SHV Energy has launched its first Global Sustainability Innovation Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to tap innovative ideas from start-ups and scale-ups that will help the company achieve its ambitious environmental targets.
A key part of the company’s Advancing Energy Together mission is to reduce its CO2 emissions by 25% by 2025. Innovation will be key to realising that ambition, said Frank Rietdijk, Group Sustainability Manager at SHV Energy.
“We know that combining innovation and sustainability will be key to our success, not just in reaching our environmental targets, but also in driving the energy transition. We also know that we can’t do it alone. The reference to ‘together’ in our commitment of Advancing Energy Together involves all our stakeholders, including start-ups and scale-ups we haven’t met yet,” said Rietdijk.
The scope of the innovation challenge is on the company’s scope 1 and 2 emissions. These relate to operations that SHV Energy controls, such as its filling operations and transportation and, for scope 2, indirect emissions such as the electricity it purchases. The challenge is designed to generate solutions related to measuring and reducing CO2 in three areas:
1. Efficient transportation and logistics: To expand its environmentally friendly operations.
2. Smart facilities: To enable its filling plants, offices, and depots to leverage renewable and energy efficient solutions.
3. Decision support systems: To identify the best steps to achieve its sustainability ambitions.
“This challenge is part of our company-wide effort to leverage the latest technologies on the market and to collaborate with leading edge start-up companies that share our vision of a more sustainable future,” said Navid Ardakanian, Global Innovation Manager at SHV Energy. “Participants stand to benefit from our resources and expansive knowledge as an industry leading global company.”
Winning teams will earn a fully paid pilot with SHV Energy, including access to its global network and collaboration opportunities across the business. Details can be found on the SHV Energy online portal.
