Initially launched as a pilot in Northen Italy, the "1,2,3... Respira!" programme teaches students about different energy sources and pollution, as well the importance of making informed energy choices.
Now in its sixth year, the programme is nationwide and has reached over 300,000 students and 4,000 schools in total. Each year the students take part in a range of interactive activities including workshops and research, as well as a creative contest where they produce videos, drawings and presentations which propose a solution to an environmental challenge. Over the past three years, this has also included a special prize where the winning schools saw their concepts turned into murals by professional street artists using air-purifying paints.
In 2024, the campaign introduced several new elements, such as an increased focus on raising awareness around the use and availability of biofuels, and a podcast on Spotify featuring engaging educational content. The year’s contest also included a special award with Liquigas donating a "bug hotel" to the winning school in collaboration with Apicoltura Urbana, an organisation dedicated to protecting pollinating insects and promoting biodiversity.
Through "1,2,3... Respira!", Liquigas continues to strengthen its commitment to accessible and impactful environmental education. Last year this included a presentation about the project to the Chamber of Deputies, Italy's lower house of Parliament, highlighting the company's commitment to fostering dialogue among institutions, schools, and businesses to promote environmental responsibility.
Giuseppe Fiorino, CEO Liquigas, said:
“I am very proud of the large success achieved across so many schools in Italy by this educational project on crucial topics such as air quality and the energy transition. Our goal is to provide students with the necessary tools to develop a critical awareness of environmental issues and prepare them to make responsible and virtuous choices, including in the energy sector, for a sustainable future. Thanks to its serious, impartial, and non-commercial approach, the project has also received great appreciation from teachers who continue to choose it after six years and to enthusiastically give us proof of participation from their students”.
