As part of this commitment, this September the company celebrated Health & Safety Week for the fifth year in a row, an initiative which takes place at the same time across the SHV Family of Companies.
As in previous years, activities were held both at head office and within SHV Energy’s businesses across the globe. The activities are designed to be engaging and enjoyable and involve the whole workforce whether at filling plants, terminals, on the road or in offices.
Activities included breakfast sessions hosted by Gaspol, in Poland, and Primagaz Czech Republic to encourage discussion of health and safety in a relaxed setting and promote workplace wellbeing. In France at Primagaz, employees also took part in health and safety breakfasts as well as quizzes, workshops and webinars. While at Ipragaz, in Turkey, activities throughout the week emphasised the importance of embedding core safety principles into both professional and personal life so they become habitual.
Daily sessions on different health & safety topics as well as first aid training also took place at Primagas Spain, while at Primagaz Germany digital training courses focused on a number of topics including ergonomics in the office, wellbeing and first aid and fire safety processes. At Primagaz Belux, as well as trainings and workshops around first aid and fire safety, stress and initiating health and safety conversations, the team took part in a risk and hazard focused virtual reality game.
In the UK at Calor, the safety team hosted webinars as part of their ‘Safety Talks’ series, and onsite teams designed their own training activities on a variety of health and safety and wellbeing topics. While at Pinnacle in the USA, both webinars and onsite ‘toolbox talks’ highlighted the importance of health and safety topics, and safe and correct procedures.
In Bangladesh, at Petromax, the team celebrated their first Health & Safety Week since joining SHV Energy, with workshops, on-site training sessions and an extensive awareness campaign. At Supergasbras in Brazil and at SunSource Energy, SHV Energy’s solar business in India, activities included workshops for all employees covering workplace safety, the importance of daily health and safety checks and CPR.
At Primagaz Scandinavia, first aid workshops took place across the business, and management teams were given on-the-job training, spending time both in filling plants and on the road delivering bulk LPG. While in Italy, at Liquigas, activities were held as part of the ongoing LiquiCare programme, which has been promoting the importance of health and safety at work since 2011. This year activities included classroom and onsite training on new and updated practices around PPE (personal protective equipment) and the road transport of LPG.
Other businesses also focused on the importance of driver and road safety. Calor Ireland hosted driver safety workshops in partnership with Ireland’s leading rally school and in the Adriatics, Butan Plin used simulator training which challenged drivers to navigate city streets with minimal violations and avoid obstacles, further strengthening their road safety skills.
As well as all the activities within SHV Energy’s businesses across the world, the head office team in Hoofddorp took place in further health and safety training and workshops. Lastly, parent company, SHV held a webinar moderated by CEO Floris de Ryck, which featured stories and experiences from across the SHV Family of Companies.
