Learning and delivering
Nominations were sought through inspiring communications, and, indeed, we received an overwhelming response! The recruitment process asked the interested candidates to pen their innovative interests and experiences, reasons for their interest and changes they would like to implement if selected. Post evaluation, the recruited Champions were trained in innovation methodologies via standard training modules. They have been learning and practicing an innovation mindset, as well as the different techniques to implement innovation in live projects.
43 applications to the program were received, out of which 24 were shortlisted for round two. Ultimately, 11 Champions were finalised. Champions were divided into three groups, each driving an innovation project in collaboration with SHV Energy.
The roles and responsibilities of the Innovation Champions were divided into two macro pillars:
- Driving ideas
- Culture building within the organisation
Rewards and recognition
Champions’ achievements have been recognised at various internal forums where they also organise fun engagement sessions related to innovation. The ‘Star Innovator Award’, given twice a year, recognises Innovation Champions displaying high spirit of culture building, in addition to impressive contributions towards live projects.
Inspiration to others
The success of this program has inspired other teams to adopt a similar approach to recruit and engage ambassadors, such as the sustainability team’s Green Ambassadors Program and Employee Engagement Champs.
“The Innovation Champions exhibit high motivation and energy levels as they have chosen to pursue their interests by self-nomination.”
