The completion of this first delivery of bioLPG, in July 2020 by GASPOL/PRIMAGAS, is an exciting step in the SHV Energy global strategy to continue to offer customers alternative, cleaner and sustainable energy solutions. It also highlights that local partnerships and commercial relationships will be key for the successful achievement of the strategy
Innovative bioLPG production
The production of bioLPG and its role as a cleaner alternative fuel relies on the conversion of biomass, waste, residues and other feedstock sources to bio-propane and bio-butane (also known as bioLPG).
Our partner involved in this production uses an innovative process that takes food waste and sugar beet tops and produces bioethanol via a fermentation process. The bioethanol is then converted to a range of different products using the ETG (Ethanol to Gasoline) process and includes bioLPG production.
A low emission fuel alternative
Thanks to the renewable feedstock it’s produced from, the bioLPG produced by our partner also has a low carbon emission rating. It has a Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission rating between 12 and 18 g C2eq./MJ which represents more than 80% carbon saving, when compared to traditional fossil fuel sourced LPG.
The new product will be available to customers in the Czech LPG market and will be distributed in the Autogas segment alongside conventional LPG.
An exciting step for Europe
The Introduction of bioLPG in the Czech market is a first step for GASPOL/PRIMAGAS as they pioneer biofuel supply for Central Europe, with planned increases for distribution and supply in the coming months.
This aligns with the core business goal for SHV Energy, to promote bioLPG as an effective solution for carbon dioxide emission savings for our daughter companies to support all our customers and, as illustrated by this example, especially help to defossilize transportation.
